Augie March Promise Us A DVD Before Heading To The US

24.08.04
Augie March head to the US in support of the release of their highly acclaimed sophomore album 'Strange Bird'. The band will undertake a six week headlining run of dates in October and November and will visit 30 cities across North America.

Augie March will be working with some of the best in the business; Frank Riley at High Road, California as their agent (Wilco, BRMC, eels, Big Star, Lucinda Williams, Ryan Adams etc), North American Management Mike Luba at Madison House (Michael Franti, J Mascis, etc) and label SpinART (Frank Black, Echo and the Bunnymen, Richard Thompson etc) Augies? early adopters in America are already a testament to their fine talent and potential overseas.

'Strange Bird' has already been very well received stateside with US Rolling Stones' David Fricke hailing the band as "new Australian wonders":

"Augie March are a quintet from Melbourne of jubilant, accessible invention, wrapping the enigmatic song craft of singer-guitarist Glenn Richards in luxuriant melees of chiming guitars, mountain-stream voices and keyboard grandeur."

Leading music website allmusic.com had this to say in their Artist Spotlight on the band:

"After building an intense and loyal following in Oz, the poetic and melodic Melbourne, Australian quintet Augie March prepare their descent on American soil with the stateside release of their sophomore album, Strange Bird, on SpinART. Initially released overseas almost two years prior, Strange Bird has been lauded with critical and fanatical acclaim and sees the band sharply honing their knack for subtle complexities and majestic imagery."

September 2004 will also see the local release of Augies' first ever DVD - 'Drones And Vapid Ditties'. A 3-hour, warts and all history-to-date of the band, the DVD will also feature all their music videos including the haunting 'Little Wonder' clip (recent winner at the St Kilda Film Festival), many live performances including a live concert filmed at Victoria's Meredith Music Festival late last year plus a documentary covering the recording of the Sunset Studies album, TV performances, bootlegged video footage, audio commentary, personal photo gallery and of course some rare uncovered gems from the Augie vault.
